We had Shawna’s family birthday party on Sunday Dec 7th and it was by far more fun than the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

We cleaned the house in the morning and started lunch of taco salad (I still need to post a recipe on allrecepies.com).  Howard, Cindy, Shanon, Rhea, Dave, William, David, and Kira came over.  We ate taco salad and then opened presents.  Shawna got several gifts including a new Mongoose bike.  more…

Trena and I took Shawna out for lunch to the Mexican restarant “Los Amigos” for her birthday on Thursday.  It’s been a tradition for us to take each of the kids out for lunch on their birthday.  It’s kinda special for them because they get to leave the school and it’s just them with us.

Well, today we had the first “real” snow of the season.  This should be the snow that will stick around.  There is about 2 inches on the ground and we had light snowfall all day ranging from tiny whispy flakes to large fat flakes like cotton candy falling from the sky.

We received math class materials for Shawna on Friday.  These are from Keystone High School.  Shawna had taken the same Pre-Algebra class online with BYU but didn’t do as well as we had hoped.  Keystone has a different philosopy.  They send a text book (something vital missing from the BYU course) and a packet with worksheets, tests, envelopes to mail back tests and a three ring binder.  Also included was a student handbook which outlined exactly what was expected of the student and who, when, and how to get ahold of them in case of trouble.  The Keystone classes are all workbook and textbook based, not computer based.  That is- the correspondence classes are.  Keystone offers online classes as well but since Shawna didn’t achieve the results we had hoped for through BYU online, we opted for correspondence.
